推荐理由：重庆市巫山县下庄村，一个群山合围的村庄，村民时代挣扎于贫困。在村党支部书记毛相林带领下，村民们战天斗地，在绝壁上造出一条通往外界的道路，从此走上了致富之路、幸福之路。这种不信天、不认命，新时代的“愚公”精神，令人敬佩。  

天坑开路人    

The Road Builder in the Valley    

“山凿一尺宽一尺，路修一丈长一丈，就算我们这代人穷十年苦十年，也一定要让下辈人过上好日子。”  

“The mountain will widen one foot if hewed one foot, the road will lengthen one mile if dug one mile. Even if we will be poor and suffering for another ten years, we must let the next generation lead a better life.”  

毛相林同志  

1997年1月，毛相林当选重庆市巫山县下庄村村党支部书记，提出要修一条出山路，并带头签下一份“生死状”，写下，修路中，本人死了与村上无关……为动员村民，毛相林带头卖粮卖猪、掏空积蓄、抵押房产，又求母亲拿出积攒的700元养老金。在他的带动下，每家每户挤出10元钱，筹集了近四千元启动资金。  

In January 1997, Mao Xianglin was elected as the secretary of the Party branch in Xiazhuang Village, Wushan County, Chongqing City. He proposed to build a road leading out of the mountain and took the lead in signing a “Life and Death Certificate”. He wrote that his death would have nothing to do with the village if he died by accident in building the road. To mobilize the villagers, he took the lead in selling food and pigs, emptying all his savings, mortgaging the real estate and begging his mother to take out 700 pension to support the project. Under his leadership ,each household squeezed out 10 yuan and raised nearly 4,000 yuan as start-up capital.  

1997年的冬天，重庆市巫山县下庄村村民们正式开工修路。因为没有专业的工具，村民们只能选择铁镐、大锤，甚至是镰刀、锄头等农具，把悬崖壁上的石头一块块凿下来，向峭壁要路。  

In the winter of 1997, villagers in Xiazhuang Village, Wushan County, Chongqing City officially started building roads. Because there were no professional tools, the villagers could only use iron picks, sledgehammers, or even sickles, hoes and other agricultural tools to chisel off the cliffs one by one to build the road.  

2004年4月，历时7年，毛相林以“愚公移山”的决心和毅力，带领村民凿出一条8公里长、2米宽的机耕道。几代人的梦想终成现实。  

In April 2004, lasting 7 years, Mao Xianglin led the villagers to excavate an 8-kilometer long and 2-meter wide mechanical farming road with the determination and perseverance of Yu Gong. The dreams of generations came true in the end.
